Tallahassee Alumni Alliance Dinner
Submitted by Steven Sims, Brevard 2012

(L-R, Michael Miller, Thesla Anderson, Steven Sims,
Angela Alford, Cindy Stoddart-Cooper, Jared Torres)
It was like a gathering of the Knights of the Round Table, the power, success and intelligence all meeting under one roof at Harry's. This was the first of many meetings of the Take Stock Alumni in Tallahassee. We had all made it through the program, and all of us share similar situations between one another, relating deeply to the program with intent to help and publicize our feelings toward Take Stock in Children. There was a total of six of us attending the dinner; Angela Alford, Michael Moore, and Steven Sims who were accompanied by Jared Torres, President of The Alumni Alliance for Take stock in children, Thesla Anderson who is the Director of College and Pre-College Outreach at Florida States Medical School, and Cindy Cooper who is the Vice President of Strategic Alliances for Take Stock In Children. We started the night with casual talk about our experiences in the Take Stock in Children Program, mentors, and counties we we're from. We talked about future plans for ourselves, and for our alumni group later down the road. Overall, this was a great experience for developing our connections and contacts and provided a way to meet some of our Take Stock in Children colleagues, who share very similar interests. We plan on trying to meet every few weeks as a group, with a new arranged guest every time to better our connections and show the success of Take Stock In Children. We as a group would like to thank Cindy Cooper for arranging this gathering for us and starting the kickoff of the Alumni of Tallahassee.

I Am Take Stock in Children

Each year Take Stock in Children graduates an average of 1,000 students per year.  Since 1996 we've had over 16,000 students graduate from the Take Stock in Children scholarship and mentoring program and each of these graduates has a story to tell.  We overcame obstacles and challenges to reach our dreams and Take Stock in Children wants to hear about them.  The "I Am Take Stock in Children" campaign is an attempt to gather as many alumni stories as possible so that we can share to power of this program with our communities and our state!  Tell your story today by emailing India White, Vice President of the Take Stock in Children Alumni Alliance at whitewi@gm.sbac.edu. Your story will be shared on the blog spot as part of the "I Am Take Stock in Children" campaign.  So join us as we share the power of Take Stock in Children from our perspective.

Welcome to our Blogspot

In February of 2011 eight graduates of the Take Stock in Children program came together to develop and implement an Alumni Alliance for the purpose of reconnecting program participants with the organization and networking with fellow alumnus.  Our vision is to provide a Take Stock in Children alumni network to increase postsecondary retention among TSIC participants and support local program needs.

If you are a graduate of the Take Stock in Children program and are insterested in learning more about our group, please email Helen Quinn, Alumni Alliance State Office Liaison at hquinn@takestockinchildren.org .  Together we can make a difference in our communities.  After all, we ARE Take Stock in Children!
